A series of photographs, 2006
The project consists of photographs of my mother’s outfit, Mongolian traditional garment deel and a basket called arag. The project inspired by my discovery of a book about a woman explorer from early 20th century. An American traveller, Janet Elliot Wulsin, embarked on trips to Tibet, China and Inner Mongolia with her husband Frederick Wulsin between 1921-1925 to study the lives of people, landscapes, animals and plants with a support from the National Geographic Society. In one of her diaries, she has complained about the relentless moving from one place to another and spending so much time just on packing and unpacking.
Vanished Kingdoms: a women traveller in Tibet, China and Mongolia, 1921-1925 (2003) by Mabel H. Cabot.
A public performance and installation, documented by Juliet MacDonald, 2005
The performance was part of a group exhibition called From the Ordinary, (13 June-2 July, 2005), LeedsMet Art Gallery, Leeds, UK
